Best Practices

Onboard decisions that can have a positive effect on the quality of any school bus ride.  (Examples)

"A best practice is a method or technique that has been generally accepted as an improvement to mandatory standards and practices.  It tends to produce a superior result anytime, anywhere and for any reason.  Best practices are used to achieve quality of product, service and more specifically process.  We should be continuously striving to search for and achieve best practice solutions, when it comes to the safe, efficient and effective transportation of our children."

1.  School bus drivers are not just transporters of students, they are also guardians, teachers and confidants who first need to earn the RESPECT of their riders, before they can expect to receive it.

2.  To help control STUDENT BEHAVIOR on the bus, the use of dry erase-white boards while in transit, especially for the younger, "more enthusiastic" students, has been a godsend.  This has created a standard for the more "active" students, and can last the entire school season.  Cheap, effective and reusable!

3.  Programs that are designed to curb school bus behavior are many and vary as to their success.  The word "program" suggests that there is a beginning and an end.  All programs, such as these, should be treated as processes that have one thing in common - GOALS.  Without goal(s), and the related measures and improvements on those goals, the objective cannot be achieved, let alone maintained.
